This week's posit is a congratulations to our niece, Emily. She is a very talented young lady, and over the years she has accumulated quite a list of academic accomplishments - starting a few years ago when she placed nationally in Canada in a science fair, and then later won 2nd place across all of Canada for a painting related to Remembrance Day. She is from the small town in Saskatchewan where Karis grew up, and manages to excel even without the fancy schools that those of us in big cities can access - she is just amazing!
This year, she decided to participate in a national contest to celebrate Canada's 150 year anniversary of becoming a country. She wrote a poem......and WON! She and her mother were flown out to Ottawa to participate in the Canada Day 150 year celebration, received an iPad and will then be flown out in October to participate in a week-long education event in which the kids that won will be able to explore and experience areas that they are interested in - she will be exploring Arts and Culture.
The poem is below - and it is so well done, for Canadians it is truly a poignant piece in which you know what she is talking about, and the various "Canadian-isms" (not actually a word, but just roll with it! :)). Congratulations Emily - we are so proud of you!
