Florida Christmas Part 1

Every second year we go up to Canada for Christmas with the Z family - and thankfully Covid started just right after the last time we had been up there, so we were still on an every 2 year cadence with 2021 being the year that we should go up there.  With that in mind, we wanted to have Christmas in Orlando with Grandma Bobbi and Grandpa Lyle so we targeted the Sunday prior to Christmas.  We ended up with a lovely surprise in that Steinkes were able to come (sad for them, happy for us as they were supposed to have already left for their own trip to Canada but JetBlue's flight wasn't able to take off so they had to depart one day later than expected, so we said "come join us for Christmas!!")

Matching family PJs!

Our day started off with Grandma and Grandpa coming over for brunch - we started off with our requisite Christmas day pajama picture and then enjoyed breakfast together.    Then we opened presents, played games, and then we opened our Gift of Time letters (always a favorite thing that we do) before we finally got dressed into regular clothes and then started our preparation for a late lunch.

Amy and Grandpa were partners

While Grandma, Zach and Kaleb formed the other team

Addison was helping Daddy keep his mouth closed while playing the Logo game as he so desperately wanted to shout out the answer!

Steinkes joined us for lunch and more games, and then we ended the evening with a drive around looking at Christmas lights in various areas - the one house that we love to go to that has lights set to music wasn't there this year!  We were so disappointed - we hope they do it again next year but we weren't sure if maybe they moved - so we'll try again next year and see.  But we still were able to go around and look at other neighborhoods.

Christmas Cheer

December is always a highlight of the year with so many fun activities, and this December was a fun one - starting off with a "make your own Christmas wreath."  Let's be clear, Amy is not creative and has never done this before, so it was an adventure.  Heather H hosted it, and it was fun to be able to visit with people and learn how to make a wreath!

Johanna, Tracy, Jeannine, Deanna, Heather, Kelli, Amy and Wendy with our finished wreaths!

We love Christmas decorations, and our Christmas tree is full of ornaments from each year that Karis nd Amy have been married - so many memories and special moments that we get to talk about as we put up the tree!

Almost there!

In December, Kaleb had the fun opportunity to tag along with Evan to Islands of Adventure to celebrate a belated birthday for Evan - they rode tons of rollercoasters and rides - it was a super fun day - thanks Evan for the invite!

Down they go!

Every year Crane's Roost has fireworks that go off to start the Christmas season which is always fun.  We had a fun time - this is probably posted on the wrong week's blog post as Kaleb was at his Uno Voce party which we included on a previous post and it likely was the same weekend that Zachary was in Chicago seeing as the Zs were there with only Addison! ;)

Fireworks are amazing!

We had a really fun evening with some new families here in town (Tkachuk's and Lundes) and Addison discovered their little train set - so nostalgic for Christmas for sure!
Amy and the kids spent one day during the pre-Christmas week delivering gifts and cards, and we stopped at Grain and Berry for lunch - we all love it with the exception of Addison - but she was a good sport and let us all enjoy it!

Family pictures 2021

Every year, the Z children suffer trials and tribulations by having to do family pictures - there is lots of whining and huffing and puffing, but thankfully the kids are always good natured enough to do the pictures and smile when the camera comes out!

On the way - all dressed up!

And here are a few pictures of the final product.  So sweet to capture these kids each year as they grow up way too fast!

Chicago Bears Trip!

One of Zachary's long-time best friends Blake is a Chicago Bears fan, and for his 8th grade graduation he was gifted a trip to see the Bears play up in Chicago where his Dad grew up.  The original intent was for Blake's grandpa to come as well, but at the last minute he wasn't able to join them and the tickets had already been purchased, so the Bs graciously asked if Zachary would like to join them at the game.   This was an inaugural event - other than summer camp, Zachary has never been on a trip without the Z parents but we've known and entrusted the B family with our childcare since they were born, so we felt very comfortable in letting Zachary spread his wings - so off he went!

It was a whirlwind trip, they flew up just for the weekend and walked around Chicago on Saturday and then went to the game on Sunday.  The weather was COLD, so they bundled up and took rain gear as it was sprinkling on Sunday at the game.  It was a great fun experience, and we are thankful to great friends for inviting Zachary along!

Some of the things that they did and saw included:  The Navy Pier, Millennial Park, The Bean, Chicago skyline, the Tilt and of course Soldier Field.

While Zachary was away, the rest of us had a fun-filled weekend as well with lots of activities to keep us busy.

Addison sang at church with the children's choir

And then Addison and Amy in the afternoon went over to the church to participate in a family activity of building a manger scene and reviewing the true gifts that God brings to the world.  Very fun!

Contest to wrap up our friend Elin as a present!

The church also hosted an evening of watching the Christmas story "the Star" and then afterwards they had these incredible bubbles that would float in the air and were made of fog/smoke -- not the typical wet bubbles.  They were so fun -  you'd touch them and "poof" they'd pop into smoke again.  It enamored all of us, including the adults!

In December of course there are lots of Christmas parties through work and school.  Kaleb had his Uno Voce Christmas party in which they had a costume contest - Kaleb had a suit jacket that had battery operated lights that would twinkle - so he was a twinkling light for the evening - complete with a bowtie and red pants.  He had fun with it, and ended up winning the contest amongst his group (although Kaleb is always gracious and said he thought that another friend John Mark should have won, as he came dressed up as an actual Christmas tree but had taken off his outfit by the time the contest was judged -- because who wants to walk around with tree branches on you all night!? 😂)

Amy had a fun work party in which we went out and painted a picture as a group, after which we did a gift exchange and lunch.  Very fun with a great group of people that she is blessed to work with!

Aside from Christmas parties, Addison had a fun outing with Grandma and Grandpa to pick strawberries - they were huge!

Sampling the huge strawberries as they picked them!  Yummy!

Tons of berries that they picked!
