Playing with the Hicks!

Last weekend, the Hicks family came down to Orlando to spend a fun-packed time together. We played in the pool until everyone was pruny, went to the beach (very windy and cloudy but the kids still seemed to enjoy it - although as a parent I have to say that crunching sand as I ate my picnic sandwich was less than enjoyable! :)), took in the Sanford zoo, and then the finale was a day at Seaworld. We were very sad to see them leave - the visit is always too short! As it was such a fun weekend, I've included a lot of pictures below.

Erick could be a model in this picture! Kayley, Leah and Kevin enjoying the waves!

Zachary making the long crawl to the ocean and then getting "attacked" by the wave!

Our SeaWorld Group - Kevin, Rhonda, Erick, Kayley & Leah Hicks, Lisa, Rob, Adam & Luke Deininger, and then the Z's!

Petting the Stingrays was one of the highlights and the second is a nice family shot

The ultimate fun is playing with Daddy's hat - who cares about the Dolphin show!!

Campbells, Mother's Day & More

Sorry for the delay in updating - last weekend was very busy so I didn't have the chance to get on and post - so this week I'll make up for it by catching up! :)

Aunt Marge and Uncle Melvin made the long trek from California to Florida in early May before heading up to Tennessee. We had a great visit with them and our Floridian family, and enjoyed Mother's Day together. I've included some pictures from our visit below.

On another note, we've now had the visit to the pediatric specialist about Zachary's head size - at this point, the doctor (who was GREAT!) believes that although his head is large that nothing is wrong with him. We'll go back in 3 months to have another check-up, but at this point we are not doing an MRI. An interesting tid-bit that the doctor shared with us is that children who have large heads are slightly developmentally delayed (crawling, walking etc) because of the "balance your head" issue. This delay apparently disappears by the time that they're in the 3-5 years old range. We're relieved to hear the doctor indicate that he believes Zachary is just fine - it is always nice to have an expert give you peace of mind even though we thought that was the case.

Aunt Marge, Mom, Aunt Louise and Shari
Uncle Melvin & Zachary sharing some bonding time - Zachary seems to have figured out Uncle Melvin - unlike the first time that he met him (see picture below when Zach was 2 months old!)

Zachary hadn't quite figured out this Uncle Melvin business yet! :)

Fun in the Sun!

Summer has officially arrived in Florida - complete with hot temperatures and forest fires. Our summer thunderstorms haven't begun yet, so we are suffering through a lot of smoke these days from fires burning several hours away. Last week we took Zachary into the pool, which he seemed to enjoy very much. This weekend, besides being Mother's Day, is an eventful one as we have relatives (A. Marge and U. Melvin from California) visiting. We'll be sure to post pictures of our visit on our next posting.

For all that knew Amy when she was a child, you may remember that she had a large head - well, it appears that Zachary has inherited the "big head," so we are headed to a pediatric specialist to have tests run to be sure that he doesn't have hydrocephalus. Depending on what that specialist says, we may end up having a "flash MRI" done - which apparently does not require sedation which is a relief. We're remaining calm as we do really believe that this is an inherited "big head" issue, but we welcome any prayers anyway! Hopefully this just means that he has lots of brains in there!

Finally - Happy Mother's Day to all moms! :)

Trip to Chicago

Last weekend, Karis made the trek up to the Windy City to complete his final course in the Maitland Manual Therapy certification. He'll return in October to take the test to receive his certificate, so he'll be studying in the meantime (reminiscent of the good old school days!). While there, he was able to catch up with friends - Kevin Hicks and Will & Heather Cochran. If you look at the picture on the hotel wall, you can see a great skyline picture of Chicago. Meanwhile, Zachary and Amy spent the weekend hanging out together and running errands! :)
